I believe that informal assessments are extremely important in observing how your students are doing and what knowledge they are retaining. While looking at the informal assessment I can see what areas of the material I have to spend more time on and also which material I don’t. It also has shown me when I can move on to the next topic. While looking at their informal assessment I can also see what misconceptions have been drawn from my teaching. This helps me in that I find new ways not only on how to present the material but also in my wording during my delivery of the material. While reviewing the material from the class before with verbal questions I can see what areas really hit home and which others I need to reinforce to the students. Before the students do the assignment I always read through the directions with them and give further explanation. After we have read through the directions I then ask if any of the students have any questions. In a lot of the cases as when I am doing a lab or in class exercise I will give a demonstration to the students so they can see what to do. I my eyes I strongly believe that the informal assessment is much more important than the formal assessment.
